Mileage Tax Confusion and Clarification

The Asheville Citizen-Times published a story on October 6, 2009 stating that the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is a member of a coalition that supports a funding mechanism, which will tax drivers on miles driven. We wish to clarify that the Chamber has not taken a position supporting a highway tax based on miles driven. The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Task Force will be discussing transportation and infrastructure issues in the coming months and staff continues to welcome input from Chamber members. Our current position statements on transportation and infrastructure can be found on the Chamber’s website. If you have any additional questions or concerns please contact Laura Copeland at 828.288.6126 or lcopeland@ashevillechamber.org.
