Get Involved

Educational networking opportunities and exposure are only two of the many benefits of becoming involved and invested in the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. There are different involvement areas and commitment periods, so members can choose to volunteer for a committee or task force that meets the member’s goals and schedule.

To learn more or become involved in the below opportunities, please contact the corresponding department or note it on your membership application. Organized by Chamber departments, opportunities for involvement are listed below.

Convention Development Committee (CDC)
Offers an opportunity to network with hospitality industry colleagues. From time to time special projects involve task force activity and everyone is welcome to attend. Stay informed of the group sales and service activities in Asheville, by participating in CDC activities. (Meets quarterly)

Public Relations/Marketing Committee
Conducts joint efforts to promote tourism in the area and network with tourism marketers.. Committee members may elect to serve on the Media Tour Task Force and the Media FAM Task Force. (Meets every other month)

Tour & Travel Development Committee
Conducts joint promotions to increase Asheville's profile in the motorcoach and AAA market segments as well as offers industry networking opportunities. Committee members may serve on project specific task forces throughout the year. (quarterly)

Visitor Center Volunteers and Hospitality Table Diplomats
Offers information and assistance to tourists and people within our community.

Economic Development/Small Business & Entrepreneurship

ATHENA Award Task Force
Plans and executes the nomination and selection process of the ATHENA Award. (Meets February through May)

Small Business Leader of the Year Task Force
Plans and executes the nomination and selection process of the Small Business Leader of the Year Awards. (Meets February through May)

Sky High Growth Awards Task Force
Plans and executes the nomination and selection process for the Sky High Growth Awards.  Also plans and implements the event for award presentations. (Meets August through October)

Small Business of the Month Task Force
Plans and executes the nomination and selection process for Small Business of the Month recognition. (Meets as needed)

Hot Tips Seminar Series
Develops and promotes series of management education seminars on key issues facing small businesses. (Meets July through December or as needed)

Member Services/Communications

Ambassadors Committee
Serves as a liaison between new and current members and staff. Assists with grand openings, ribbon cuttings and other Chamber events. (Meets monthly)

Professional Networking Group
Shares leads, contacts, business ideas and referrals with other members of the group. (Meets weekly)

Workforce Development/Public Policy

Partners in Education
Builds business-education partnerships, solicits mentors for at-risk students in three public school systems and provides incentives for teacher recruitment and retention. Guides Educators in Industry program, Spring Shadows program, TechConnect and evaluation of high school cooperative programs. (Meets as needed)

Governmental Affairs Task Force
Reviews federal, state and local issues and develops a legislative agenda. Communicates the Chamber's position to elected representatives. (Meets twice monthly from fall to spring)

Transportation and Infrastructure Task Force
Focuses on transportation issues and infrastructure that affect the operation of local businesses such as airlines, road improvements, passenger rail service and utilities construction, etc. (Meets as needed)
