Asheville 5x5 is a five-year economic development initiative of the Chamber and the Economic Development Coalition of Asheville-Buncombe County. Read on to learn more about the Chamber's efforts to grow 5,000 new jobs in the region.

Asheville, NC– In conjunction with the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County, American Recycling of Western North Carolina, LLC announced its plans to launch operations in the Asheville market, creating 20-30 new positions within the next three months. The firm’s anticipated $1.5 million investment in its Enka plant will strengthen the company’s significant presence in the Southeast, serving national and international markets.
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, American Recycling is one of the largest independently-owned collectors, processors and marketers of recovered paper in the Carolinas. The firm offers services to all types of recovered material generators including clients in government, manufacturing and distribution, providing customized programs to increase efficiency, reduce waste and optimize environmental stewardship. American Recycling intercepts waste that would otherwise be deposited in a local landfill and sells its reclaimed fiber and various grades of post-consumer and post-industrial plastics to various end users here in the Carolinas. “Sustainability is as much a part of our mission as it is a part of our business model,” said President and owner Ron Moore. “Efficient recycling programs and services such as ours not only save time and money but protect the environment and enhance the quality of life in the communities where we do business.”
In addition to a long roster of potential new clients in Asheville, the firm was attracted to a progressive business community with a demonstrated commitment to the environment. The firm’s success follows a growing local and national recognition of the bottom line value of sustainability practices. The arrival of new recyclers like American Recycling suggests a trend among local businesses seeking cost-effective waste stream solutions. Moore stated, “Recycling is no longer just about preserving our landscapes, clean air and clean water but a common sense business practice in tough economic times.”
“We’d like to offer our thanks and support to Ron Moore and his staff at American Recycling for choosing to do business here in Buncombe County. We’re confident they will find both the talented workforce and sustainability-minded customers they need for long-term success in Western North Carolina,” said K. Ray Bailey, Chairman of the EDC.
Mayor of Asheville, Terry Bellamy, commented, “Access to comprehensive recycling services such as these are becoming more important to employers concerned with the triple bottom line of people, profits and planet. We’re grateful to the leadership of American Recycling for their interest in and commitment to our business community, residents and environment.”
The company will host an open house on Wednesday, January 25th at its new facility to celebrate its entry into the Asheville market. The event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will include facility tours, dinner and entertainment. American Recycling will be advertising for openings in administration, account management and material handling over the next three months. For additional information on American Recycling and job opportunities with the organization, please visit the Employment Security Commission at 48 Grove Street in downtown Asheville, or visit www.amrecycling.com.
