Genesys
“Landing in Asheville gave me and my family the quality of life we were looking for without sacrificing my work”
-Jason Ramsay, CEO
Genesys Systems is quickly bringing attention to Asheville with products that will drastically change the commercial lighting industry. Genesys has a patented technology for High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps that saves 30-70% of the energy usage. These lamps are an everyday sight throughout the world as they are commonly used for street, parking lot and parking deck lighting as well as any "high-bay" applications such as gas service stations, and indoor manufacturing and distribution facilities. Genesys' CEO, Jason Ramsey, is a Western Carolina University graduate who was excited at the opportunity to headquarter his company in the beautiful NC mountains. This advanced technology quickly caught the eye of the US Department of Energy, who invited Genesys to locate its Research and Development Lab onsite at the Department Of Energy's facilities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Genesys is poised for significant growth, and with local manufacturing, Asheville could benefit from their success.
With an install base approaching 700 million units worldwide, the HID market is large. HID lamps have seen little improvement in the last 50 years and currently offer no energy efficiency options. Genesys plans to change that with their electronic ballast, that not only saves energy--and lots of it--but also extends bulb life, improves light quality, and greatly increases reliability. But there are other savings that benefit not just the customer, but the sustainable movement worldwide. "There's no question LED is the buzzword in lighting right now," says Ramsey "but Genesys provides the same energy savings, with higher quality light and we are a retrofit to existing lighting systems." Current LED products require existing fixtures to be replaced, while the Genesys solution is a retrofit thereby preserving the existing system and diverting waste from entering landfills. "When you take our savings to a global scale, the results are magnificent…" says Ramsey as he goes on to describe the terawatts of power and millions of metric tons of CO2 that can be saved globally.
Genesys motto is "Light. Recreated." The corporate goal is to educate businesses that they do not have to sacrifice sustainable practices to get energy savings. Biltmore Farms, Fletcher Business Park and Lamar Outdoor Advertising are a few local businesses that were quick to embrace this technology, as well as the NC Department of Transportation. All installations are proving the Genesys benefits, including the reliability and quality, as well as the overall value proposition. We invite all Western Carolina residents to help support this local business by spreading the word that expensive and waste-producing large-scale lighting upgrades are no longer required to gain energy savings.
