Educator in Industry Day

Audience: For teachers and educators

Purpose:  Inform and promote advanced manufacturing careers to Asheville and Buncombe County School Teachers

Description:  EDC, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education Board and AB Tech will host educators for a day-long event including panel discussion of local manufacturing leadership and a tour of (4) Buncombe County manufacturing firms including Thermo Fisher Scientific, Deltec Homes, Unison Engine Components and Jacob Holm Industries.

Transitioning to Lean Seminar & Shingo Tour

Audience:  For manufacturing professionals with interest in Lean practices and implementation

Purpose:  This one-day workshop will introduce the fundamentals of production efficiency and immerse you in the basic principles of the Shingo model, guidelines and criteria.  NC State's Lean experts will help you get your Lean Mojo back!

Description:  NCSU Industrial Extension Service will host a day-long, hands on Lean Class (Tuesday) and tour of Shingo Prize Silver Winner, Volvo Construction Equipment (Wednesday AM).

Audience:  Human resources, plant management, supervisors and others interested in manufacturing workforce development

Purpose:  Discussion of pilot program promoting the value of manufacturing careers to our workforce, community and economy.

Description:  Luncheon at the Asheville Area Chamber will present details of pilot workforce development program and renewed partnership between the manufacturing community, local schools and AB Tech.  Manufacturers will be given overview of the program and opportunities for corporate participation and volunteerism.
