DSLR Camera & Lens Operation Workshop
Date: Tuesday, March 6th 2012
Time: 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Description:
COURSE OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this workshop is to enable the student to progress from "automatic" operation of their camera and lenses to "manual" or "semi-automatic" operation (including exposure, focus and more). Emphasis is also put on lens selection and operation.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This five-session workshop provides the essentials for any avid photographer to understand the fundamental operation of their DSLR camera and lenses. It is also a great lead-in to many of David's more-advanced "application" workshops (e.g., Travel; Events; Photographing Children; HDR Photography), this five-evening workshop is designed with the hobbyist and aspiring professional photographer in mind who is ready to take their artistic skills to the next level, learning the manual functions of their camera, and leaving behind the automatic "little green box" setting.
In the first part of this series of classes, David walks the students through the mysteries of photographic exposure, including in-depth insight into lens aperture, camera shutter speed and sensor ISO. Equally important, he provides a logical explanation of your camera's light meter. David also covers the creative side of camera operation, including depth-of-field control and management of moving subject matter. This knowledge is essential for mastering correct and creative exposure.
The remaining time of the workshop ties in other important camera functions, such as white balance, auto focus and lens selection and operation.
HANDS-ON EXERCISES: Throughout all five sessions, David introduces hands-on exercises for the students to help put all of the learned concepts into practice immediately. Assignments are given each week, with a critique segment starting off the following week's class.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
Exposure - Aperture / Shutter Speed / ISO
The Light Meter
Operating Modes (auto / semi-automatic / manual)
Depth-of-field
Freezing and blurring subject motion
Minimizing camera shake
