About The Community Foundation:
The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina is a nonprofit organization established in 1978 to build a permanent pool of charitable capital for the 18 counties of Western North Carolina. CFWNC works with individuals, families and corporations to create and manage charitable funds and makes grants to nonprofits or public agencies in the region.
The Foundation manages $185 million (6/30/12) in assets with a long-term investment strategy that permanently protects and grows these funds. In partnership with fundholders, CFWNC has awarded more than $130 million in scholarships to students and grants to nonprofit organizations and public institutions across our 18-county region and beyond. In 2011, the Foundation adopted a strategic plan that emphasizes focus and sustainability.
CFWNC now focuses discretionary resources on People in Need, Early Childhood Development, Food and Farming and Preserving Natural and Cultural Resources. The mission of the Foundation is to inspire philanthropy and mobilize resources to enrich lives and communities in Western North Carolina.
