Megapixels & Megabytes - Demystefying the "Megas" [Seminar]
Date: Thursday, March 15th 2012
Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Description:
SEMINAR DESCRIPTION: Nowadays, nearly everyone has a digital camera, whether it's a handy point-and-shoot model, or a complex DSLR. But, how many really understand what's going on inside the camera (i.e., with the camera's digital sensor), and how the pixels play a key role in defining the resolution and quality of a digital image (just the way film played a key role before digital cameras came on the scene). How many people even know what "megapixels" are, let alone what they do?
Furthermore, once the pixels do their job in gathering the light of an image, this information is recorded on a memory card as a digital file, which is later used to view and edit the file on a computer. The most common file type that is captured is a JPEG file, but there are other options, such as RAW and TIFF files. And, in the post-processing stage (and in some newer camera models), there is another somewhat-common file type called a "DNG" file (= Digital NeGative). But, what does all of this mean to the photographer?
This special two-hour seminar will serve to clear up all of the confusion about pixels and file types, giving the photographer an essential understanding of the fundamental building blocks of a digital image and its associated file.
