About ABYSA
The Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) provides children and families in Western North Carolina with both recreational and competitive soccer programs. Soccer is thriving in Western North Carolina. ABYSA has continued expansion of the recreation program (now over 4,500 registrations) and competitive soccer, outreach, financial aid, and summer camp programming are now offered to more than 5,000 children and families. During the spring and fall seasons, over 5,000 people visit the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex at Azalea Park in east Asheville on each game day Saturday and Sunday, and there are over 500,000 soccer complex visits annually. This does not include park visits for other sports or purposes.
In addition to local and regional reach, ABYSA sponsors a minimum of six tournaments each year, filling nearly 5,000 hotel rooms and bringing in over 23,500 visitors from across the Carolinas and surrounding states. The Asheville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated ABYSA’s regional economic impact to be over $2.7 million in 2011. Since the opening of the John B. Lewis Soccer complex at Azalea Park in 2005, it is estimated that more than four million guests have visited the park!
