Religion
Asheville’s religious community seems just as diverse as the city,
with nondenominational and “modern” churches happily coexisting
with long-established church populations. Thriving Greek and
Jewish communities draw from historical and religious roots that
parallel the city’s history. People far and wide know the
Basilica of St. Lawrence, built by famed architect and tile
craftsman Raphael Guastavino, for its unusual Spanish
Renaissance and tile and masonry architecture.
