Technology
Asheville and Buncombe County enjoy a level of technology and
related talent that might be unexpected in a traditionally
relaxed southern community. Wireless Internet hotspots are
plentiful. A fiber-optic network developed by the
Education and Research Consortium of the
Western Carolinas now stretches from a major hub in Asheville to
Greenville, S.C. and is hooked to major Internet intersections
in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. Relationships with nearby Oak
Ridge Labs in Tennessee and the North Carolina Biotech Network
have been the catalyst for
entrepreneurial activity
in
technology commercialization
throughout the region.
Digital artists,
solution-oriented manufacturers, and
creative people developing new
software and hardware applications
are able to work from anywhere now, so is it any wonder that
they would choose to enjoy the quality of life in Asheville and
Western North Carolina, as they pursue their passions and
satisfy their ambitions?
