In this Q&A, co-founder William Heedy shares the story behind the firm’s launch and reflects on what makes practicing law in Asheville, and serving its people, so meaningful.
Tell us about your business.
From our offices at 72 Patton Avenue, the attorneys at Coffield Heedy Kilgore PLLC provide transactional legal services in the areas of business law, intellectual property and estate planning. Our firm was founded in March 2025 by Ryan Coffield, William Heedy, and BJ Kilgore with a mission to provide clear legal solutions with integrity, professionalism, and respect for our clients and the community. We are committed to achieving our clients’ goals with dedication and expertise.
How did you decide on your business name?
Deciding on the order of our names in the firm name was a top priority in the early stages of our planning. After countless internal discussions and requests for input from family members, we decided pulling letters from a Scrabble bag over lunch at Mamacitas to determine the order of our names was the best way to go.
What makes your business unique in its field?
We believe we are in a unique position to provide personal, tailored legal services to our clients. Moreover, when the scope of the legal services is outside our particular practice areas, we are quick to utilize our connections in the local legal community to help serve our clients.
During your first year of business, what was the greatest lesson you learned?
During our first year of business, we have learned the importance of adaptability and community engagement. The legal market is dynamic, and we’ve found that flexibility in our approach allows us to respond effectively to client needs. Simultaneously, actively participating in the local community has not only boosted our visibility but also fostered valuable relationships, often leading to unexpected collaborations and support. These two lessons – embracing change and building connections – have been instrumental in the success of our young law firm.
What is your favorite part about doing business in the Asheville area?
Coffield Heedy Kilgore PLLC attorneys have each been working in Asheville for over a decade. We are fortunate to call Asheville our home and truly grateful to be part of this remarkable community. Our time working in Asheville has allowed us to cultivate numerous personal and professional relationships which make living here so special.
