Accomplishment:

  • This year, Mission Health had the opportunity to honor and recognize three of the many amazing nurses they have on our team. The three Great 100 Nurses of NC for 2021 have a shared theme of advancing the professional practice of nursing through professional governance and shared decision making. Each has contributed in unique ways to facilitating nursing excellence at Mission Hospital. They are: Andie Slivinski, DNP, RN, ACNS-BC, CEN, CPEN, TCRN – Clinical Nurse Specialist, Trauma Services, Jessica Fusco, MSN, RN, CPN, NP-C – Clinical Nurse, Pediatric ICU and Judy Luff, BSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, IBCLC Clinical Nurse, Labor & Delivery. Announcement:

  • Asheville Community Theatre has produced Costume Drama: A Fashion Show, a competition centered around the creation of fashion from unconventional material in designated categories since 2012. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Costume Drama: A Fashion Show has become a touchstone of collaboration and creativity for so many, including local designers, models, hair and makeup artists, and photographers. In this Project Runway-esque show, local designers compete for cash prizes with proceeds from ticket sales to benefit the theatre. This year, Costume Drama will feature 17 entries in three design categories (Garage Sale, Mix and Match Throwback, and Toy Box). The categories are modified each year, presenting new challenges and opportunities for designers. Because of COVID-19, this year’s Costume Drama has been prerecorded and will stream online on Saturday, September 10, 2021 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $25.00, and are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org.
  • Dogwood Health Trust has released its Mid-Year Impact Report and has invited the community to attend its upcoming virtual community meetings this September. Dogwood Health Trust issued its first-ever Annual Report in December 2020, sharing 2019 financial statements and an overview of estimated grantmaking for the year 2020. Dogwood plans to share another annual report at the end of 2021, but is utilizing this report to provide a brief, mid-year update of 2021 activities amidst a year of recovery.   • The Search Committee for the next MAHEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is looking for a leader who will build on the foundation established by Dr. Jeff Heck and others over the last 47 years. They are looking for a leader who will bring expertise and the ability to continue the growth and expansion of services MAHEC offers to the communities it serves. MAHEC, located in Asheville, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the western 16 counties of North Carolina. As one of nine regional AHECs, MAHEC is one of the most successful AHECs in the country, and with over 850 employees and an annual operating budget of $100 million, it is the largest non-profit in Western North Carolina.   • Pisgah Legal Services is searching for a Director of WNC Economic Recovery Program. They seek an innovative and experienced person to lead and direct a multi-year grant funded expansion of anti-poverty work within the broad areas of free tax preparation/tax credits and outreach/enrollment for Affordable Care Act health insurance to take the organization to another level in addressing poverty. The Director position is a critical role in designing, leading and expanding current program work to include all 18 counties across WNC and to collaborate with key partners through the region to achieve meaningful results. The Tax Attorney will support the WNC Economic Recovery Program by serving clients with federal and/or state income tax disputes.
