Acquisition:

  • Curbie Expands Recycling Capacity in WNC – Curbside Management has acquired Sonoco Recycling’s Candler facility, adding 15–20 jobs and expanding access to recycling services throughout the region.

Announcements:

  • MAHEC Retains 34 Medical Graduates in WNC – MAHEC announced that 34 new physicians, dentists, and pharmacists will remain in the region following their residency and fellowship training—strengthening healthcare access in Buncombe and surrounding counties.
  • Dogwood Health Trust Launches Grant Opportunity for Older Adults – From July 7 to August 4, nonprofits can apply for general or program-specific funding to support adults 60+ and their caregivers. Eligible organizations will also join Dogwood’s Older Adult Collaborative. An informational session will be held June 25. More info at dht.org

  • Operation Blood Drive Takes Place June 26 – The 38th Annual Operation Blood Drive is back across multiple WNC and Upstate SC locations. Donors will receive a T-shirt, a $15 Amazon gift card, and a chance to win $7,000. Make an appointment.
  • Montford Park Players Return with A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Enjoy free Shakespeare under the stars July 4–August 2 as the Montford Park Players perform a 1990s-themed Midsummer Night’s Dream at Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre.   • AVL Airport Debuts New North Concourse – Asheville Regional Airport’s new North Concourse officially opens today, offering more space, upgraded amenities, and a refreshed passenger experience. All gates are expected to be operational by the end of July.
  • Asheville Opens New Dog Park on Broadway Street – Dog lovers, rejoice! A new dog park has officially opened on the former site of the city’s temporary shelter on Broadway Street. The park offers shaded seating, agility features, and a safe space for dogs to play – another step toward revitalizing the area after Hurricane Helene.
