City of Asheville: The City will unveil Fluvial, a new public art installation by Rachel David (Red Metal), on November 13 at 11 a.m. along the Urban Trail beside the historic S&W Building. Inspired by Asheville’s Art Deco architecture, the sculpture doubles as seating and replaces the long-vacant Station #7.

Momentum Gallery: Asheville artist Rachel David will also debut work in Paintings and Steel, a joint exhibition with Raymond Bonilla opening November 13, 5–8 p.m., at Momentum Gallery, followed by a community celebration at The Times Bar at 8 p.m.

Wortham Center for the Performing Arts: Beloved holiday tradition A Swannanoa Solstice returns with a new lineup featuring Cathie Ryan, Maura Shawn Scanlin, and Asheville vocalist Elizabeth McCorvey. The performance celebrates Celtic and Appalachian roots with music, storytelling and song.


White Horse Black Mountain: For 17 years, White Horse Black Mountain has been a cultural anchor and economic driver in the Swannanoa Valley – hosting live music nearly every night and drawing visitors who support local restaurants, shops and lodging. In 2023, White Horse transitioned to a nonprofit, deepening its mission as a hub for community, connection and philanthropy – where every show is a benefit, and every beat gives back.  Supported by a recent Buncombe County TDA grant, the venue is expanding its facilities to welcome even more artists, audiences and collaborations that enrich the region’s creative economy. Full Moon Tea Company: Founder Katie McDonald has been awarded an NC IDEA Micro Grant to expand her chef-crafted loose-leaf tea line – one of only two WNC recipients. The $10,000 award also supports the three women-owned businesses at The Stir (Full Moon Tea, Matcha Nude and Spice Witch).

Big Sea: Big Sea is proud to announce their certification as a Certified B Corporation, joining a global community of businesses that balance purpose and profit. Certified B Corporations are verified by B Lab, the nonprofit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. TD Bank & Mountain Housing Opportunities: Through TD Tree Days, volunteers planted 30 new trees at MHO’s Spring Garden Homeownership Site in Candler. The event enhanced community green space for residents who built their own homes through MHO’s Self-Help Homeownership program.

Buncombe County: Residents are invited to help shape the future of Swannanoa during the Small Area & Resilience Plan Design Workshop on December 3, 4:30–7:30 p.m., at Owen Middle School. America250 NC – Buncombe County: Community members are invited to listening sessions on October 28 and November 12 to share ideas for commemorating America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The Buncombe250 Committee seeks input on local events, projects, and programs that honor history and civic spirit.

Government & Policy

City of Asheville: Council advanced several Helene Recovery measures, including Bee Tree Dam repairs, a Water System Resilience grant application, a $50,000 disaster recovery grant for swift-water equipment, and updates to the CDBG-DR Action Plan. A one-year pilot also expands Level 3 event sound-permit days to support post-storm economic recovery.

Buncombe County: Swannanoa residents and business owners to are invited to attend the kickoff Community Design Workshop to share your input on long-term planning vision for the future of Swannanoa. Come share ideas regarding future development, conservation, resilience to future hazards, and growth. Buncombe County & City of Asheville – Continuum of Care Board: This year’s plan for Code Purple season (Nov.1, 2025-April 30, 2026) includes a nightly winter shelter at two sites. Code Purple is a coordinated effort among Buncombe County and Asheville shelters to alert and provide emergency overflow shelters to unhoused individuals during cold weather. During the alert, participating shelters will provide more beds with fewer requirements than their typical programming. Sites will also work with participants to refer them to ongoing shelter and housing options. AdventHealth: Family medicine physician Dr. Craig Burnworth, board-certified in both family and sports medicine, has joined AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty Same-Day Care in Candler. With more than 18 years of experience in musculoskeletal and urgent care, Dr. Burnworth brings a whole-person care approach rooted in his service as a U.S. Air Force physician during Operation Iraqi Freedom.


AdventHealth: Longtime local physician Dr. Chona Reguyal has joined AdventHealth Medical Group Family Medicine at Parkway, offering full-spectrum primary care, including women’s health and chronic disease management. Dr. Reguyal previously served at the Charles George VA Medical Center and has cared for Hendersonville families for more than two decades.
