Need in-kind support or want to help other businesses?

March 31, 2020

As the COVID-19 Response unfolds, our county staff members are beginning to receive more requests from groups looking for bulk quantities of items like food, cleaning and personal protection items to share with the people they serve. At the same time, United Way is fielding calls from businesses and community groups that are interested in filling needs like these.

Buncombe County, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce have partnered to fulfill this need.

United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County’s volunteer center, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe already has a platform that is matching individuals to ways they can give back and they have a long and strong history of large scale project management for volunteerism and in-kind donations in our county.

The new process will put United Way staff in charge of managing the influx of requests and matching these organizations with companies or groups that are prepared to fulfill the need.

If a need arises and there is no one to fulfill that need, United Way staff will work with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce to coordinate strategic appeals as well as send out area-wide calls to action through the media.

For businesses who would like to request in-kind support, fill out this form: In-Kind Support REQUEST Form

For companies/groups that can provide in-kind support, please fill out this form: PROVIDE In-Kind Support

We encourage all businesses to periodically review the in-kind support requests as there may be a need you could fill that you haven’t thought of.

Please note:

  1. This announcement is about the creation of a process to match the needs between organizations and businesses. It is not a service for individuals to request goods. None of these groups have the capacity to handle that kind of volume.
  2. Also, none of the three groups –  United Way, The Chamber nor Buncombe County Government – have space to store donations. So please, do NOT drop off materials to any of these locations. The United Way will match organizations and from there the groups can coordinate their own drop off arrangements.
