At first glance, Washed By The Water LLC might look like just another pressure washing company – but dig a little deeper and you’ll find a business grounded in redemption, resilience, and real impact. Founded by Michael J. Hall, a justice-impacted entrepreneur with a powerful story, Washed By The Water offers residential and commercial exterior cleaning services across Asheville with a dual mission: to restore properties and rebuild lives.
Specializing in pressure washing, deck and porch restoration, and custom property maintenance, the company delivers excellent service with purpose. Through hiring and training returning citizens, Michael’s business offers more than employment – it offers second chances and new beginnings. With every driveway cleaned or fence renewed, Washed By The Water is washing away stigma and showing Asheville that transformation is possible – one job at a time.
Tell us about your business and the role you play in it.
I’m Michael Hall, the sole owner of Washed By The Water LLC, a purpose-driven property maintenance and pressure washing company based in Asheville, North Carolina. We provide exterior cleaning for homes, driveways, decks, porches, fences, and more – offering customized maintenance packages for both residential and commercial clients.
But we’re more than a service provider – we’re a social enterprise. I started this business to offer employment and skill-building opportunities to returning citizens – individuals reentering society after incarceration. It’s our way of giving back while delivering top-quality service with integrity and care.
How did you come up with the idea and name for your business?
The idea came from my personal journey. I’ve experienced incarceration and transformation, and I know how difficult it is to find employment and stability after that. I started this business to support my family – but also to create a path for others like me to find purpose, dignity, and a fresh start.
The name Washed By The Water reflects both the spiritual rebirth I experienced and the physical work we do. It’s about more than cleaning buildings – it’s about cleansing the past, renewing hope, and moving forward with purpose.
What makes your business unique in its field?
Our work is rooted in dual purpose – we clean properties, but we also transform lives. Every job is a chance for someone to build a new chapter, and our clients are part of that impact. They’re not just paying for pressure washing; they’re investing in restoration, healing, and second chances.
How many employees do you have? What qualities do you look for when hiring?
We’re a small but growing team. When hiring, I don’t just look at resumes – I look for heart and readiness. I seek out men who are teachable, dependable, and willing to show up for something bigger than themselves. Skills can be trained – character is the foundation.
What was the greatest lesson you learned in your first year of business?
That vision requires endurance. There were tough days when I didn’t know if we’d make it – but I learned that consistency, faith, and excellent customer service matter. Treating people right always comes back around.
Where do you see your business in the next year? The next five?
In the next year, I hope to expand our team, offer more comprehensive services, and launch our workforce training initiative for returning citizens. In five years, I envision operating multiple crews, building a training facility, and becoming a model for justice-impacted employment across North Carolina and beyond.
Why did you join the Chamber?
To build relationships, grow as a leader, and connect with others who care about community impact. The Chamber helps amplify our story and reminds people that we’re more than a business – we’re a movement for change.
What’s your favorite part about doing business in Asheville?
The people. Asheville is a city that values community, growth, and second chances. I’ve felt seen and supported here, and I want my business to be a light in the very places I once felt lost.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your business?
Washed By The Water LLC is a living testimony. I’ve been through incarceration, identity struggles, and had to face my past. But I also found faith, healing, and purpose – and this business is the result.
This work is about more than property maintenance. It’s about being a bridge from brokenness to breakthrough. If we can help someone believe in themselves again, support a family, or restore a sense of pride – then we’ve already won.
