The Fosnight Center for Sexual Health works to de-stigmatize sexual wellness with whole-person care

December 8, 2020

“Sexual health is extremely important,” says Aleeece Fosnight, MSPAS, PA-C, CSCS, CSE, NMCP, founder of the Fosnight Center for Sexual Health. “We are working very hard to de-stigmatize and improve sexual functioning, normalizing open discussions around this topic.” Aleece has 7 years of experience as a physician assistant and 4 years of experience as a sexual health educator and counselor. Along the way, she recognized the lack of sexual health awareness not just in the Western North Carolina community, but in its providers as well. In 2016, she founded the Fosnight Foundation to help meet this need. Just 4 years later, the Fosnight Center for Sexual Health officially opened its doors. We sat down with Aleece to learn more about her journey as a businesswoman and the Fosnight Center’s role in the Asheville community.

The mission of the Fosnight Center for Sexual Health is to restore the fullness and richness of life through accessible, whole-person, integrative treatment and education for sexual healing and wellness.

The Fosnight Center for Sexual Health was founded by Aleece Fosnight, MSPAS, PA-C, CSCS, CSE, NMCP in 2018 with a vision to create a center that encompasses an integrative approach to the biopsychosocial model to treat and manage sexual health concerns. Our staff includes medical providers, pelvic floor physical therapists, sex therapists, and other complimentary staff. We are a BDSM/Kink aware, trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ educated staff where we pride ourselves in making all feel welcome and safe to discuss their sexual health.

The Fosnight Center for Sexual Health opened its doors on June 26, 2020.

What makes your business unique in its field?

We believe that our approach to taking care of our patients is unique; we take a biopsychosocial approach when assessing and managing sexual health concerns. This means we use a multidisciplinary team working collaboratively to maximize patient health outcomes. We have had the opportunity to provide a  need that wasn’t being met in our area. Sexual health is extremely important and we are working very hard to de-stigmatize and improve sexual functioning, normalizing open discussions centered around sexuality.

During your first year of business, what was the greatest lesson you learned?

Perseverance. It has always been a dream of mine to open my own practice…little did I realize how many pieces there were to this puzzle and how little resources there were for opening up a private medical practice. Although I have faced my fair share of challenges, I have grown stronger through this process and made connections with people I normally wouldn’t have had the opportunity to. Now because of what I’ve done here and the research that I’ve done, I have a platform for others to use and model.

Where do you see your business in the next year? The next five?

In the short few months we have been open, we’ve grown tremendously and are already planning for a bigger space. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive healthcare facility to take care of all sexual health concerns under one roof. We also hope to provide more insight to other local providers about just how important sexual health concerns are and to make them aware we are here to work collaboratively to improve the overall health of our patients.

What is your favorite part about doing business in the Asheville area?

Asheville offers a wonderful diverse group of individuals. I have already felt such a warm welcoming during our time in business so far. Asheville provides opportunity for unique growth within our business meaning not just locally, but regionally as well. And who doesn’t love Asheville?!
