The Power of the Switch: Lessons from WomanUP

September 5, 2025

At the WomanUP program on August 28th, TV host and charity auctioneer Erin Kienzle shared an empowering message: our energy is powerful, and we can learn how to flip the right switches to step into confidence, clarity and connection.

Erin settled into the idea of switches when she realized as an adult that she was an introvert who had been unconsciously flipping a switch in a world that often celebrates extroverts. Erin reminded us that introverts have a hidden superpower. We’re “alchemists of energy” – learning to preserve it, grow it and use it with intention.

Erin shared concepts of three switches that can help us reach our goals.

1. The Confidence Switch
Confidence isn’t just a mindset. It shows up in our posture and presence. Erin shared practical tools to project confidence:

  • Imagine a golden thread running from your belly button through the top of your head to naturally open your posture.
  • Relax your shoulders and throat. This even lowers your voice, making you sound more grounded.
  • Show your palms when speaking. This nonverbal signal builds trust and helps others categorize you as a “friend” within the first 30 seconds of meeting you.

2. The Life Switch
If you are contemplating making a big change in your life, embrace the messiness and give yourself permission to pursue a change of course.

  • Permission not to be good at everything. Women often feel the pressure to be perfect, but perfection isn’t the goal. Getting started and moving forward is.
  • Permission to be selfish. It’s okay to say no to anything that doesn’t serve your goals, to protect your energy and focus on what matters most. “Be cognizant of what will serve you towards your goal. Saying no politely to what doesn’t matter – that is what is going to move the needle.”
  • Permission to evolve.

And when you’re ready for big life changes – whether in work, relationships or personal growth – surround yourself with a supportive circle who are at a similar stage. Erin encouraged us to create our own “think tank” of women who lift each other up and walk alongside us in evolving toward our goals.

3. The Magnetic Switch
When confidence and clarity align with passion and purpose, something remarkable happens: you become magnetic.

  • Speaking with conviction and compassion makes others feel safe.
  • Energy is contagious. When you put out positive energy, others naturally mirror it.
  • Think of creating an “energy cocktail” that leaves people feeling positively engaged with what you had to say.

Other Powerful Reminders

  • On imposter syndrome: Even the most successful people feel it. When it shows up, remind yourself: I deserve to be here. I’ve earned the right to be here.
  • On Zoom authenticity: Skip the blurred background. Let something personal show. It can be a conversation starter and a way to build rapport.

Final Word

As Erin closed, she reminded us, “I’m giving you permission to embrace what’s possible for you and flip that switch.” Whether it’s a small situational shift or a big life transition, these switches can help us stand taller, move towards our goals and show up in the world with magnetic energy.
