Asheville School hosts art opening featuring Cheyenne Trunnell

September 13, 2016

Asheville School will host an opening featuring the work of Cheyenne Trunnell on Thursday, September 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the John M. Crawford Gallery.

Trunnell’s collection, Capturing the Essence of Peace Through the Elements of Nature, will hang in the gallery until October 19.

“I asked Cheyenne Trunnell to be the exhibiting artist because her artwork captures a sense of peace and serenity that many artists strive to seize to no avail,” said Casey Arbor, curator of the John M. Crawford Gallery. “The textures, colors, and sense of space are impressively compelling and soothing. She is clearly thoughtful in her brushstrokes and her intentions.”

This year, Asheville School is remembering the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers and celebrating the United Nation’s International Day of Peace on September 22 by offering 11 days of special programming. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on peace through discussions, activities and performances.

Arbor is excited to feature Trunnell’s work as a part of this programming.

“Cheyenne’s artwork captures that sense of peace,” she said. “I was especially drawn to her artist statement, which says: ‘Each painting seeks to capture the essence of peace through elements of nature, by exploring the relationship between light and form.’”

Trunnell works out of a studio in the River Arts District. She creates paintings with personal spiritual significance. “This body of work is about expressing moments in time when all is quiet on a trail in the woods and the very presence of God seems so near—it is a peace in the depths of your soul that is unexplainable,” she writes in her description of the show.

This opening is free and open to the public. For more information, call Asheville School at (828) 254-6345. The John M. Crawford Gallery is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can visit Trunnell’s website here.
