The Kenmure Fights Cancer program continued its commitment to supporting cancer care at AdventHealth Hendersonville by donating $37,500.18 to the AdventHealth Foundation this year. This year’s donation from Kenmure Fights Cancer is designated for the purchase of new cancer diagnosis technology for AdventHealth patients.  Kenmure Fights Cancer has raised over $527,000 for the cancer programs at AdventHealth Hendersonville and Pardee UNC Health since 2008 with year-round fundraising events.

Award 

  • Mission Hospital achieved the American Nurses Credential Center’s Magnet recognition.  The organization recognizes hospitals that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. With this credential, Mission Hospital joins the global community of Magnet-recognized organizations. Less than 10 percent of U.S. hospitals have achieved Magnet recognition, and Mission Hospital is the only one in Western North Carolina. Mission Hospital’s journey to Magnet recognition began in September of 2015, continued through the transition to HCA Healthcare, and culminated in a final site visit in September of this year. Congratulations!

Civic 

  • The Buncombe County Board of Elections and the Election Services Department will begin a recount in two races, North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Seat 1 and Buncombe County Schools Owen District. The recount began on Thursday, November 19th,and  Election Services staff anticipates running through the weekend. Per North Carolina Board of Elections procedure, observers are allowed. A maximum of six observers will be admitted at 50 Coxe Ave. The recount process will be live streamed at www.buncombecounty.org/vote to allow more observers to participate.

  • The YWCA of Asheville and WNC has announced their appointment of Diana Sierra as Interim CEO. “After two months of community listening, extensive conversations, and several interviews with the YWCA leadership team and Board of Directors, our joint decision to select Diana as our Interim CEO was an obvious one,” says Jesica Hooper, Chair of the Board of Directors. Sierra has most recently served as the head of Buncombe County’s Family Justice Center (FJC) and has almost six years of experience working within Buncombe County government including Child Protective Services. Congrats, Diana!

This year’s donation from Kenmure Fights Cancer is designated for the purchase of a new slide stainer to enable more efficient cancer diagnosis for patients of AdventHealth Hendersonville. A slide stainer assists a pathologist with diagnosing and staging a mass, which indicates the treatment plan for a patient. With their care team utilizing a more efficient technology, patients experience a shorter wait time for results.
