  • AdventHealth Hendersonville Cancer Services has been recognized for providing high-quality, comprehensive cancer care to its patients. This certification comes from the QOPI® Certification Program, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Association for Clinical Oncology (the Association) and an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (the Society). The QOPI® Certification Program builds on the Society’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®), providing a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care. Happenings:

  • Mars Hill University Theatre Arts Department, under the direction of Chelsey Lee Gaddy, presents Neil Simon’s Sweet Charity beginning March 23rd at the historic Owen Theatre on the Mars Hill University campus. The production, music directed by Chuck Taft and choreographed by Amanda Hoyte, continues through March 26th. The cast features Emma-Leigh Brookshire, Blake Freeman, Ethan Weber, and Reggie Headen.Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children, free for Mars Hill University students and staff with identification the day of the performance.   • AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to welcome Constance (Connie) Stec, H(ASCP) to her new role as Director of its Laboratory. Stec most recently served as Laboratory Operations Supervisor at AdventHealth Hendersonville. Stec is an experienced laboratory scientist, with 11 years in health care management focused on operations and process improvements. Stec’s career in the medical field started as a Medical Laboratory Specialist in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Stec earned her bachelor’s degree in Information Systems & Healthcare Administration from the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH. She went on to complete her Advanced Certificate in Lab Management from the Lab Management University. Stec has more than 36 years of lab experience and has worked in every area of the lab. She is dedicated to creating a collaborative environment where team members’ voices are heard, and patients receive whole-person care. Read more.

Opportunity:

  • The Magnetic Theatre will offer workshops on lighting design, costuming, scenic painting, puppetry, and sound design as part of the Magnetic U Designer Series.  Classes may be taken individually or as a full series at a discounted cost. The Magnetic U Designer Series will take place over the course of 2023 and offer workshops in the fundamentals of lighting, costumes, scenic painting, puppets, and sound.  Participants will walk away feeling like they can take what they learned in these courses and apply them to serve in various production team roles, as assistants or designers. The Magnetic aims to empower behind-the-scenes artists to build skill sets that they can use in real life.   • The South College Asheville Physician Assistant program officially launched on Jan. 23 with the first class of 84 students who are pursuing a Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies. The South College Physician Assistant Program previously earned provisional accreditation status from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) for its master’s level program in Physician Assistant Studies. This is the accreditation status initially awarded to new programs. The Commission is the accrediting agency that protects the interests of the public and physician assistant profession by defining standards for education and evaluating programs in the United States to ensure compliance.
