Achievements: 

  • South College again has earned the Military Friendly School designation and is among the Top 10 in the country for 2022-2023. South College, which first earned the Military Friendly School designation in 2016, has been a longtime advocate for veterans and supporter of the U.S. military. The South College Military Grant program provides tuition benefits to veterans and spouses of veterans with honorable discharge status; active duty military and spouses; and dependents who are eligible for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits. The institution also participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which helps cover eligible participants’ tuition not covered by the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Learn more about South College here.

Happenings:

  • The 2022 Our Turn to Play Scholarship Dinner will be held on Tuesday, April 26 in the Wilma M. Sherrill Center on the campus of UNC Asheville. The event will begin at 6:00 pm with a cocktail hour followed by the dinner and program. The Our Turn to Play Dinner allows our community to gather and celebrate the achievements of women in both athletics and life, and to raise scholarship funds for our UNC Asheville female student-athletes. To make it more special, this year there will also be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX.  This year, the keynote guest speaker will be Mike Whan, USGA CEO and former commissioner of the Ladies Professional Golf Association, one of the longest-running and most successful women’s sports organizations in the world.   • Asheville Outlets will host a Kid’s Day and Summer Camp Expo with Give to the Music on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 1 pm until 4 pm. The expo will give parents and campers the opportunity to meet representatives from a variety of area camps, including traditional overnight, sports, arts, day, academic and more. The event is free and open to the public and provides lots of fun activities for kids. Booths will be located throughout the center. Booth registration is now open, and space is limited. 100 percent of booth fees will benefit Give to the Music, a local non-profit funding music lessons for kids in need.   • AdventHealth has welcomed Stephanie Bowman, NNP to The Baby Place at AdventHealth Hendersonville. Stephanie is a pediatric hospitalist and will be providing inpatient newborn care at The Baby Place. She has six years of experience as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she provided care to premature, surgical, cardiac, pre-ECMO and critically ill infants. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Nursing with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner concentration at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. And she recently finished her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC. Learn more here.
