  • Archetype Brewing’s downtown location on Broadway Street, the Tap Lounge + Venue, is turning two this month! To celebrate, the brewery is hosting a Broadway Birthday Bash on Saturday, May 15. From 2 – 5 p.m., there will  be live music from local artist, 5j Barrow, food trucks and free cake. Achievement:

  • AdventHealth Hendersonville received an “A” grade in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This is the 10th consecutive top grade for AdventHealth Hendersonville from the Leapfrog Group, which awards this grade to health systems for their achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. “I am so honored to be part of an incredible team that lives out our Keep Me Safe service standard in all they do for every person who comes to AdventHealth for care,” said Cory Reeves, president and CEO of AdventHealth Hendersonville. “I want to thank them for not only achieving safety excellence with 10 ‘A’ grades in row, but for maintaining the top grades during a global pandemic. Hire:

  • Immedion LLC, the technology service provider, has hired John Sullivan as Facilities Technician for their Asheville location. In his new role, Sullivan will be responsible for monitoring and supporting physical facility conditions, including inspecting and maintaining climate control, generators, UPS systems and electrical distribution to ensure Immedion’s Asheville facility remains always on. Sullivan joins Immedion with more than 30 years of experience in the instrumentation and electrical industry. “I am pleased to welcome John to the Facilities team,” said Adam Larkins, Immedion’s Director of Facilities Operations. “His background in the electrical field is especially critical to the role of Facilities Technician as John will be responsible for ensuring our Asheville facility is always operating at peak efficiency.” Learn more here. 
  • AdventHealth Hendersonville has announced Dr. Denise Stretcher is joining its team of family medicine physicians. Dr. Stretcher started her professional life as a special education teacher, but quickly realized she was drawn to medicine. She earned her medical degree from Wright State University in Ohio and completed her family medicine residency at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She and her family moved to the mountains after a vacation to Brevard in 2007. Dr. Stretcher is welcoming patients at AdventHealth Medical Group Family Medicine in Brevard and Mills River. Happenings:

  • Three Western North Carolina Agencies are teaming up to offer ideas to “spark joy” for older adults who may be feeling down due to the isolation and dealing with depression and anxiety due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Area Agency on Aging, AARP Mountain Region and Healing Solutions Counseling at JFS are offering a three-part virtual series, “Sparking Joy: Exploring New Possibilities,” on May 5, 12 and 19 starting at 10 a.m. The series is designed to focus on our present moment and try something new to help increase a sense of self-confidence and improve brain health. Each virtual event is free and open to the public, although intended for older adults.The three events coincide with Older Americans Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, both of which fall in May.
