 AdventHealth Hendersonville has announced the latest recipient of the DAISY Award, David Huerta, BSN, RN. David is part of the AdventHealth Medical/Surgical Care Unit. “David goes above and beyond to be a team player. He always has a positive attitude and a smile on his face, no matter what,” said Brittany Hughes, BSN, RN, Clinical Nurse Leader at AdventHealth Hendersonville. “He is appreciated by his entire team!” Congrats, David!

Award

  • Champion Credit Union and Johnson Price Sprinkle PA were recently named as one of the 2020 Best Employers in North Carolina for its third year in a row. This program was created by Business North Carolina, NC SHRM, and Best Companies Group to identify, recognize, and honor the best employers in North Carolina who are benefiting the economy, workforce, and businesses in the state of North Carolina. The list is made up of fifty-five companies.

  • Buncombe County’s innovative programs continue to garner national recognition. The National Association of Counties has recognized Buncombe County with three Achievement Awards. The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs across the country that strengthen services for residents. The Community Oriented Development (COD) program received Best in Category for Planning. Just four years after the creation of Buncombe’s Farm Heritage Trail, it receives national recognition with an Achievement Award in the category of arts, culture, and historic preservation. The Energy Innovation Task Force (EITF) received an Achievement Award in in the category of county resiliency: infrastructure, energy, and sustainability.

Community

  • Everyday Gourmet will throw a pop market tomorrow from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20th (that’s tomorrow!) at their new location at 207 Weaverville Road. The market will have local produce, products, vegetable starters, plants, and more. Everyday Gourmet is also launching a new Fresh Food Bundle starting in July, and pre-registration will be open for that at their pop-up as well.
  • JM Leadership is a team of leadership experts ready to help local businesses, using innovative leadership identifiers to analyze human capital and leadership potential.   • The YMCA of Western North Carolina’s award-winning summer feeding program is partnering with three local chefs to serve healthy, delicious food at its summer day camps. The Y’s vending partners are Chef Gene Ettison of the Ettison Investment Group, Chef Aaron Mathews of McDowell Local, and Chef Clarence Robinson of Cooking with Comedy Catering. The program, which is funded by the USDA and administered through the state of North Carolina, is expected to serve more than 32,000 meals at five summer day camp sites in Buncombe and McDowell counties.

The site also features a Project Submission form where clients can post projects or jobs they’re hiring for, and distributes those messages to listing owners. Plus, if you register now, you can try it out for six months free.
  • Friday Staffing Services has immediate job openings this week across WNC, including jobs in Waynesville, Swannanoa, Etowah, Weaverville, and more. They are now accepting online applications and conducting virtual interviews.

  • Leadership Asheville will present a virtual Summer Buzz webinar, “Asheville – Open for Business? – Next Steps” from 9-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24th. The webinar is free, and will feature the following industry leaders: Katie Cornell (Executive Director, Asheville Area Arts Council), Liz Whalen Tallent (Director of Marketing and Special Events at The Orange Peel), Kevin Westmoreland (Co-founder and owner of Corner Kitchen and Chestnut), and Lucious Wilson (General Manager of Wedge Brewery).
