Camp Kanuga is opening new exciting mountain biking trails on their campus. The trails were designed by world champion downhill rider Neko Mulally, and are appropriate for all skill levels and ages. Camp Kanuga looks forward to bikers of all kinds riding the trails, from beginners and leisure bikers, to larger groups and national competitions.

Award 

  • HERS, an Asheville-based educational organization that strives to enhance community awareness and participation in their healthcare plan by creating an open forum between community members and their healthcare providers. They specifically focus on helping women of color take charge of their health after an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Yvette Jives, founder and CEO, recently shared her story with the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. You can read the feature here.

Community 

  • Four Seasons Compass Program will continue to offer Camp Heart Songs for kids as a virtual experience this summer. Camp Heart Songs is a grief camp for ages 5-18 that uses nature and the world around us to explore and process grief. Campers will be immersed in many exciting online activities including cooking, gardening, therapeutic art, science experiments, hiking, exercise, and much more. Campers will receive a box of camp supplies for the entire week and will be sent information on how to join sessions for each experience. There will also be sessions offered for adults to provide resources they can use to support grieving children in their lives. Camp is scheduled from August 3rd to August 8th. Opening 

  • After 4 months of mandated closure due to COVID-19, the Asheville Gallery of Art is proud to reopen their doors at 82 Patton Ave. Right now, they are open for limited hours: Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., and by private appointment. They are kicking off their opening with a new exhibit called Infinite Possibilities, which will run now through July 31st. Private appointments may be scheduled via their Facebook page.

Outreach

  • United Way‘s 2020 School Supply Drive is officially underway and will run through July 24. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Drive is being held completely online. Regardless of ‘where’ school will take place, basic supplies are needed to ensure the academic success of students. Donate and support the drive here.

Opportunity 

  • The Grey Eagle is hiring line cooks and prep cooks for their Asheville taqueria location, as well as their new locations in Canton, Maggie Valley, and Hot Springs. They are looking for both full time and part time applicants that have experience in high-volume restaurants, and have good attention to detail. Serv Safe certification preferred.
  • Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has partnered with 2020 Southern Living Idea House to raise money for a new Habitat home. Built by Buchanan Construction in The Ramble Biltmore Forest, this 3,500 square foot, Victorian-inspired timeless farmhouse will open for tours on Wednesday, July 29th.   • The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services are excited to unveil the Visit NC Farms app. The app will connect millions of N.C. residents and visitors to local farmers and fresh food, one community at a time. Farms are added on the county level, so interested parties can reach out to community decision-makers in agriculture, economic development, and tourism to get involved. Want to know more?
