Highland Brewing Company has announced that their founder, Oscar Wong, is the recipient of this year’s Brewer’s Association Recognition Award for “individuals whose inspiration, enthusiasm, and support have contributed to the craft brewing movement. Oscar is the 34th person to receive this honor. Other notable Recognition Award winners include Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada, Kim Jordan of New Belgium, and Michael Jackson, celebrated beer writer.

Funding 

  • The Irene Wortham Center recently received a grant from the Buncombe County Early Childhood Education & Development Fund for the 2020-2021 school year! This grant will support the Irene Wortham Center’s 8 classrooms with social-emotional resources, including behavioral therapists, Apple tablets, and teacher/parent training sessions. Hire 

  • Buncombe County has announced that Lillian Govus, APR, will oversee the newly formed Buncombe County Communications and Public Engagement Department. After an extensive search, Govus was selected from more than 126 applicants to serve in the role. Govus will oversee the newly formed Communications and Public Engagement department, with a focus on Buncombe’s 2025 strategic plan, ensuring brand consistency, and developing a culture of meaningful public engagement across the County.
