According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 60% of unemployment applicants had been laid off from the leisure and hospitality industry due to COVID-19. Now through the end of the year, Highland Brewing Company will donate a portion of the proceeds from their sales of Gaelic Ale to 12 nonprofits supporting the hospitality community across N.C. and the Southeast. N.C. sales will support the N.C. Restaurant Workers Relief Fund. With matching contributions from the brewery’s distribution partners, the “Give Back to Gaelic” program is expected to raise more than $15,000.

  • AdventHealth is excited to announce it has reached a new designation with the Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has designated the AdventHealth Medical Group locations across Western North Carolina as Age-Friendly Health System – Committed to Care Excellence. The IHI recognizes the care teams at these locations for their commitment to care of older adults that is guided by an essential set of Age-Friendly, evidence-based practices, causes no harm, and is consistent with the What Matters focus for older adults and their families.

  • AdventHealth announces its first virtual Pink on Parade 5K during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation invites you to join them Together in Spirit to support local individuals in our community battling breast cancer. The virtual event on October 11, 2020 will raise awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection for this second-most common form of cancer in American women. Taking the event virtual allows participants to pick their time and place.   • Realty One Pivot Group will hold their second annual Crush Cancer Golf Tournament on October 20th at Broadmoor Golf. A ticket includes breakfast, lunch, and a bucket of balls, and if your team registers by September 30th, you’ll also get a free T-shirt. They are now accepting sponsorships for the event as well.   • The Collider will present an Asheville PechaKucha night next Friday, September 25th at 7:30 p.m.The discussion topic will be Climate Beyond the Crisis, and all donations made during the event will benefit the N.C. Environmental Justice Network. Register online.

  • The Asheville Outlets will hold two pop-up stores this month. On September 15th, the Halloween Superstore costume shop opened to the public through November 15th. On September 18th, Pretty As A Peach Boutique will open as well. Founded by a husband-wife team in Tennessee, Pretty As  Peach Boutique specializes in contemporary fashions at affordable pricse in sizes S-3XL.

  • Mountain Housing Opportunities has announced the MHO Renter Relief Fund, an emergency fund providing financial assistance that supports MHO renters. Contributions to this fund will provide food, supplies, and masks to MHO residents in apartments in the Asheville area.
