September 16, 2013

The Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place in downtown Asheville announces its September  2013 Intersections events: Indigo Shibori Craft Group with Handmade in America artist Linda LaBelle on Tuesday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group featuring a conversation about With or Without You: A Memoir by Domenica Ruta on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. a series held in The Forum at Diana Wortham Theatre.

The Craft Group, presented in partnership with Handmade in America, meets monthly to create a work of art under the direction of a local artist. In the Indigo Shibori workshop on Tuesday September 10, participants will learn how to make a green, eco-friendly and sustainable indigo vat using no harsh chemicals with virtually no odor. Participants will learn four ancient resist techniques (Shibori), and will dye a cotton scarf in the indigo. Handmade in America artist Linda LaBelle is an Asheville-based weaver and natural-dyer. She has taught weaving techniques and both indigo and natural dyeing in India, Rwanda, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Mexico, and Brooklyn, NY. The cost of the Indigo Shibori workshop is $30, which includes all materials, and reservations are made by calling the Diana Wortham Theatre box office at (828) 258-3387 or by visiting www.dwtheatre.com.

The Book Discussion Group is an opportunity for book lovers to gather regularly for lively, casual and insightful discussions on selected books in a relaxed atmosphere with drinks and food available. There is no charge to participate; the only requirement is that you read the book. The Book Discussion Group on Tuesday, September 17 focuses on With or Without You: A Memoir by Domenica Ruta, a powerful, inspiring, compulsively readable, and beautifully redemptive story about loving and leaving, which The New York Times Book Review calls “a luminous, layered accomplishment.”

Featuring a full season of classes, discussions, and performances, Intersectionsis an opportunity for patrons to connect more deeply with the arts, artists, and each other. The Forum, a large multi-purpose space adjacent to the theatre and accessible from the theatre’s main lobby, is the venue for all Intersections events unless otherwise announced.
