Inside the Venue with Plenty of Room to Dance

February 24, 2020

Night owls aren’t the only ones who want to go dancing. If you’re an early bird who likes to hit the hay by 10 p.m., Room to Dance will be your new favorite place. The dance venue just opened on the South Slope, and is specifically designed for older adults who want to dance in an elegant and fun atmosphere. We caught up with them in advance of their ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow afternoon to learn more.

Hi Mary! Can you tell us a little more about the Room To Dance team and vision?

Sure! I am the owner of Room to Dance, and I could not have created this space without my general manager, Laurent Perotti. We came up with the idea when we noticed  a glaring gap in Asheville dance venues for people who want to go out earlier and be home earlier, so we created a venue which fills that gap.

Room to Dance is designed especially for people who love all styles of music. With a 1200 square foot dance floor set off by dazzling lighting effects, Room to Dance sets the mood for a night to remember, featuring our house DJ spinning an exciting and evocative mix of your favorite dance music from Big Band, Swing, Rock and Roll, Disco, Soul, and Salsa to Country. Add artisanal cocktails, an extensive wine list, and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages, paired with savory charcuterie and cheese trays, and other bar bites enjoyed in a beautiful, comfortable and elegant space — and you’ve got Room to Dance!

What does hospitality mean to you?

Hospitality is a word neither Laurent nor I take lightly. Top-flight service by professionals is the key to excellence in entertainment.  Laurent’s high standards have become the example for all of our employees. Our patrons have an elegant experience – not just a night out.

What experience do you strive to create for your customers?

We feel Room to Dance is a new concept all the way around. Catering to the more discerning patron means thinking in terms of additional quality, comfort and ease. We remember the days when arriving at a club at 11:00 pm and dancing until 4:00 am was our thing.  It’s just not what we want any more. So Room to Dance opens at 7:00 pm and closes at midnight. Additional comfort and ease are provided by our full-service lounge. The lounge is a large space with softer furniture in a quiet setting for those who want a conversation between dances. Seating was also important in designing the space. We have comfortable seating for 100 and no one loses a table by getting up to dance!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Each night we play music from one musical era, or one musical style. Folks can check out our calendar at RoomtoDanceAVL.com.  My favorite is 70’s night!
