The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Chamber Challenge 5k presented by Dixon Hughes on Friday, June 4, 2010 and is now accepting event registrations.   In 2009 the Chamber Challenge had a record 750 participants.

“The Chamber Challenge 5k is designed for all abilities to promote health throughout the community of Asheville. We are very excited about this year’s event and look forward to surpassing our record participation from 2009,” said Chamber President Richard J. Lutovsky.   The 2009 Chamber Challenge 5k was voted #3 in the best running event category of the Mountain Xpress Best of WNC poll.

The course will begin and end on Hill Street next to the Asheville Chamber and wind through the beautiful historic Montford neighborhood.  From Hill Street, runners will turn right onto Courtland Avenue, left onto Pearson Drive, right onto Santee Street, right onto Montford and finally right onto Hill Street to arrive at the finish line.  The course is certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association.

The Chamber will be hosting training sessions for the race each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for the eight weeks prior to the race.  The first training session will be on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.  Runners and walkers are welcome to attend the training sessions. Participants in the sessions should meet in the Chamber parking lot and come dressed appropriately for the weather and activity.  Sessions will be cancelled due to rain.

The Chamber Challenge 5k would not be possible without the support from our sponsors.  The presenting sponsor of the Chamber Challenge 5k is Dixon-Hughes.  The gold sponsors are Clear Channel Asheville, Mission Hospitals, and WLOS. The silver sponsors are the Mountain Xpress and FASTSIGNS.  The start-line sponsor is Volvo, and the finish line is sponsored by Blue Ridge Bone & Joint Clinic. Water stations on the course are sponsored by Park Ridge Hospital.

Registration for the Chamber Challenge 5k for teams of four participants is $100 for early registration and $120 for late registration. For individual participants, registration is $30 for early registration and $35 for late registration. Register before May 21, 2010 to take advantage of early registration prices.
