Big congrats to the YMCA of Western North Carolina on winning its fourth consecutive Turnip the Beet Award from the USDA. In other food news, Hops For Hunger is back for its third year, ready to turn more brews into food and Craft Centric is set to release its new beer, Dream A Little Dream, on July 4th.

Achievement

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture has recognized the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s 2018 Summer Meals Program with a fourth consecutive Turnip the Beet Award. The Turnip the Beet award honors organizations that go the extra mile to provide nutritious meals and offer participants a variety of fruits, vegetables, and kid-friendly entrees. The YMCA of WNC was one of 10 statewide award recipients, including Buncombe County Schools.
  • AdventHealth Hendersonville invites the community to join us in congratulating its newest winner of the DAISY Award, Shawn Costanzo, RN, OCN. Shawn is a triage nurse for the AdventHealth Cancer Services. Her clinical skill and dedication to compassionate patient care are consistently noticed by co-workers and the patients that she cares for every day.  
  • AdventHealth Hendersonville is honored to receive accreditation from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). HFAP is the nation’s original independent, accreditation program recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  AdventHealth Hendersonville earned this distinction after completing an extensive, objective review of the its hospital’s quality and safety standards.

  • Avadim recently announced that the University of Maryland (UOM) Medical System, one of our nations thought leading academic medical systems will include Theraworx® Protect in its treatment bundle for all patients who receive a urinary catheter.   • The Asheville Youth Choirs, a group of four community choirs for teenagers and children sponsored by Asheville’s Academy for the Arts, has recently released a music video entitled “How Good!”It highlights the unique beauty of our city, celebrates racial and religious diversity and calls for love and peace.   • Congratulations to Marie Sales for starting a new position with Hulsing Hotels Inc. as its SE Regional Director of Sales. Maria helps make WomanUP a special event by hosting us each year at the Crowne Plaza Expo.

Opportunity 

  • Tukit Tour Co is looking for drivers/tour guides with flexible schedules to not only drive an all electric Tuk Tuk, but to also serve as a tour guide as needed.  The Tuk Tuk has 6 passenger seating and is used for brewery / city tours, and Biltmore Experience Ride through the property. Outreach

  • Hops for Hunger is back for a third year of turning brews into food. This year, 25 local craft beverage makers are on board with the campaign that turns pints into plates! Thanks to the dedication and passion of local breweries and cideries, Hops for Hunger helped provide over 48,000 meals with last year’s campaign, and this year, participants hope to provide that and more to the more than 100,000 people in our region who face hunger every year. Partnership

  • Mercy Urgent Care, a not-for-profit health care organization headquartered in Asheville, is pleased to announce that it is now a member of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs contracted network of community providers. This means that eligible Veterans can receive care at Mercy Urgent Care locations without prior authorization from VA. More information about eligibility and the process for using VA benefits at in-network urgent care facilities like Mercy Urgent Care can be found at missionact.va.gov.

Promotion

  • Craft Centric’s in-house brewery Fermented Nonsense, will be releasing a new beer July 4th, just in time for their block party called Dream A Little Dream. Craft Centric says this IPA, brewed with orange peel, vanilla beans and Amarillo hops will bring you back to sticky hands, eating a Dreamsicle you got from the ice cream truck on a hot summer day when you were a kid.
