This Week’s Business Buzz: 1/4/19

January 4, 2019

Like many local business folk, we’ve just returned from a holiday recess, meaning this week’s Business Buzz is short and sweet. Friday Staffing and Mission Health have employment opportunities listed below. Asheville School is looking forward to honoring Martin Luther King later this month, and the United Federal Credit Union recently partnered with The Storehouse to purchase and deliver gifts to over 150 children in need.

Achievement

  • The sixth annual Root Cause Awards, celebrating achievement in the local forest products industry and sustainable forestry, were announced on December 26, 2018.   This year’s awards highlighted important issues that face our region’s forests and the great people/organizations that are working on them. The three winners are: Megan Sutton, Navitat Canopy Adventures, and woodworker Mike Hester.

Opportunity

  • Friday Staffing is looking for a Milling and Lathe Machine Operator, Laborer, Medical Collector, Material Handler, Dishwasher, Warehouse Worker, Order Puller, and Coldform Operator. For more information, call Angela Paskus at 828-684-8700 or go to www.friday-staffing.com.
  • Are you a registered nurse with less than one year of experience? Or will you graduate from a nursing program by May 2019? Mission Health invites you to learn more about our New Graduate RN Residency Program at an Open House on Monday, January 14 from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. The event will be hosted at Mission Health’s Cancer Center at 21 Hospital Drive in Asheville.

Outreach

  • This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a group of local students is seeking to engage and inspire the Asheville community with the Reverend Dr. King’s enduring works. On Monday, January 21, Asheville School and BeLoved Asheville will host a recitation competition open to all area students in grades 6 – 12. During the competition, participants are invited to perform accurate and engaging reenactments of some of the Reverend Dr. King’s most famous and important speeches.
  • United Federal Credit Union (United) employees partnered with The Storehouse to purchase and deliver gifts to over 150 children in need in Henderson County, North Carolina, as part of the Blessings in Boxes community initiative. In November, United announced it would be partnering with The Storehouse again in support of the 2018 “Blessings in Boxes” program, donating over $5,000 to help purchase gifts.
