Gallery of the Mountains to host demonstration by Bryan Koontz

August 2, 2017

On Friday, September 1, Asheville artist Bryan Koontz will demonstrate traditional still life painting in oil from 1 to 5pm at Gallery of the Mountains, inside The Omni Grove Park Inn. Several of Bryan’s original paintings, influenced by the realistic styles of the Hudson River and American landscape painters of the 19th century, will be on display and available for sale.

As a native of the area, with a family heritage spanning back two centuries, Bryan has developed a deep appreciation for the mountain culture, heritage and scenery.  To impart some of that sensibility, he strives to create natural landscapes that draw people into what they are viewing and portraits and figure paintings that show the subject’s beauty through their character.

Bryan uses various media in his work, including graphite, charcoal, pen & ink, watercolor and oils. “I am always excited to explain my techniques using traditional methods and materials,” says Bryan. “Viewers seem very interested in hearing how these materials have been used for centuries and how, when properly crafted, they help ensure a work of art that will last through many generations.”

Bryan has a degree in Commercial Design from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. In addition to fine art painting, he has worked professionally in the print and graphic design industry for over 30 years. Notable commercial illustrations include the pen & ink drawings used for the various Mast General Stores located around the southeast.
