Hotel Indigo: Cultivating sanctuary in downtown Asheville

Susan Newton, the Director of Sales at Hotel Indigo, answers a few questions about what it’s like to work at Hotel Indigo and the sense of sanctuary her team strives to provide for its guests.

Tell us about your business and the role you play in it.

Hotel Indigo- Asheville Downtown, I am the Director of Sales. Opened in 2009 and currently operated by Interstate Hotels/Resorts. Our core values, are to go beyond for our associates, guests and our owners and our communities. Anticipate the needs of our guests and service ethics that provide the ability to exceed expectations for the guest!

Thinking together as a team: be engaged. To move with purpose and to serve with enthusiasm.

What is your company’s relationship with the community?

We support many local community organizations, including the Asheville Symphony + Youth Symphony, Women’s Reach, MS Society, Church of the Advocate, working with the homeless population. Rotary Club, Shrimp on the Farm event, Haywood Rescue Ministries, Our Voice in the past.

What experience do you strive to create for your customers?

Given the atmosphere of our world these days, we strive to impart a sense of sanctuary within the hotel. To have each guest feel inspired and cared for within our hotel and to leave somewhat altered by that experience!

What do you enjoy best about working in your industry?

The ability to meet and work with so many different and interesting people on a daily basis. This industry allows you to cross into different cultures, people from all over the globe and their unique imprint to each of the encounters.
