The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Member Sales Representative to join our staff. This person implements sales efforts for new members and assists in retention of existing Chamber members. Full job description below. ASHEVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
JOB TITLE:                Member Sales Representative

REPORTS TO:           Director of Events & Sponsorships

DEPARTMENT:        Member Services/Communications
PAY STATUS:           Sales-exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Solicits and promotes Chamber memberships to business and industry.  Maintains current memberships by providing quality services in a timely fashion. 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
Implements and coordinates sales efforts for new members in assigned markets.
Assists in the retention of existing Chamber members.
Conducts sales sponsorships for non-dues revenue programs.
Compiles and prepares various operational reports monthly.
Maintains and updates files, records and logs using the Chamber’s computer system and related software.
Attends various meetings related to Member Services activities.
Rotates with other sales representative in attending ribbon cuttings/grand openings.
Attains personal sales quotas, pursues all sales lead developments and completes follow-up activities relative to assigned markets. 
Assists the department with special projects, leads, promotions and other duties as assigned.
Serves on various committees relative to assigned markets.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of marketing principles and sales techniques is required.  Knowledge of the departmental policies, sales goals and objectives is essential.  Knowledge of Chamber’s personnel, organizational structure and sources for information is required.  Requires the ability to develop, implement and present marketing software and operate basic office equipment.  Requires administrative and organizational skills to maintain files and logs and compile data to generate reports.  Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Prior work experience in a sales position would be required to prepare for this job.  Up to six months in the position would be necessary to become proficient in most phases of the work.
EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT:
Bachelor’s degree preferred in marketing, or an equivalent combination of education, related experience or training would be required to prepare for this position.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS.
Has frequent internal contact with department Vice Presidents, co-workers, committee members, the President and Vice President of Member Services.  External contacts are with prospective and existing Chamber members.  All contacts are for the purpose of exchanging or providing information and require tact, courtesy and professional decorum.
CONFIDENTIAL DATA:
Has access to membership records, sales promotions and advertising information all of which are considered confidential and are not in the Chamber’s best interest to disclose.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACCURACY:
A high level of accuracy is required when gathering and providing information to prospective members.  Most errors could be detected through proofing and follow-up procedures.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL/VISUAL EFFORT:
The degree of concentration ranges from slight to intense, based on the work being performed.  Position is subject to frequent interruptions that require varied responses.  While performing duties of the job, incumbent is routinely required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  Requires visual acuity, manual dexterity, and good eye/hand/foot coordination.
RESOURCEFULNESS AND INITIATIVE:
Performs routine and semi-routine duties according to established guidelines and procedures.  Creativity is used to implement sales and retention strategies.  Initiative and resourcefulness as used to target various groups and secure memberships.
ENVIRONMENT:
Ninety percent of work is performed in the field with the remainder in an office environment.
