ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Mountain Area Workforce Development Board encourage all Western North Carolina career seekers to attend the WNC Career Expo, which will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 11 AM – 4 PM at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville, located at 87 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville.

Participating employers are hiring to fill hundreds of available jobs combined. Most will be interviewing job seekers on site, and many employers in high-demand industries like health care, hospitality, and advanced manufacturing will be hiring on the spot.

“If pandemic-related hardships forced you to leave employment, the WNC Career Expo is an excellent chance to reconnect with career,” said Kit Cramer, President & CEO of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. “Employers offering great pay, benefits, and work on various shift schedules are ready to connect with job seekers.”

Job seekers can explore a wide variety of rewarding careers at the WNC Career Expo. More than 90 employers in growing industries are currently registered to participate, and 85% of participating employers are hiring for at least one job paying $18 or more per hour.

For job seekers looking for employment opportunities with schedules that fit their household and family caregiving needs, 73% of participating employers are hiring for various shifts, like weekends, nights, or second shift. 22 participating employers are also hiring for roles that allow remote work.

The WNC Career Expo will also help connect people experiencing barriers to employment with opportunities. For example, nearly half of participating employers say they are interested in working with candidates who have previous justice involvement or are returning to the community from incarceration.

INFORMATION FOR JOB SEEKERS

The WNC Career Expo is free and open to all job seekers with no registration required to attend. Parking is free in City of Asheville parking decks for all participating job seekers.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS

All WNC Career Expo participants and attendees – both employers and job seekers – will be required to follow Buncombe County protocols for COVID-19 safety that are in effect at the time of the event.

Buncombe County does not currently require face coverings at indoor gatherings, but recommends that individuals experiencing symptoms or with recent positive COVID-19 test results stay home. Buncombe County also encourages people at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 to assess personal risk and need for protective measures like wearing a face covering in crowded areas.

If Buncombe County public health guidelines change prior to or on the day of the WNC Career Expo, participants will be expected to follow all associated requirements.
