ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Mountain Area Workforce Development Board encourage all Western North Carolina residents interested in exploring rewarding local jobs to attend the upcoming WNC Career Expo, which will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 11 AM – 4 PM at the WNC Agricultural Center’s Davis Event Center, located at 765 Boylston Highway in Fletcher.

Participating employers are hiring for hundreds of available jobs combined, and most will be interviewing or hiring candidates on the spot.

“If you’re looking for a well-paying job after a pandemic-related loss of employment or pause in career, the WNC Career Expo is the perfect opportunity to find one,” said Nathan Ramsey, director of the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board. “Participating employers are ready to hire and are offering great pay, benefits, various shifts, and willingness to work with people who have experienced barriers to employment.”

Job seekers can explore a wide variety of rewarding careers at the WNC Career Expo. 79 employers in growing industries like manufacturing, health care, and hospitality are currently registered to participate, and 84% of participating employers are hiring for at least one job paying $18 or more per hour.

For job seekers looking for employment opportunities that fit their schedules and household needs, about 80% of participating employers are hiring for various shifts, like weekends, nights, or second shift. 13 participating employers are also hiring for roles that allow remote work.

The WNC Career Expo will also help connect people who are experiencing barriers to employment with opportunities. Nearly half of participating employers say they are interested in working with candidates who have previous justice involvement or are returning to the community from incarceration. All participating employers are interested in connecting with military veterans and experienced workers who are over the age of 50.

The WNC Career Expo is free and open to all job seekers with no registration required to attend. To learn more about the event and view a list of participating employers, visit  www.WNCCareerExpo.com.

To promote a safe experience for all participants, the WNC Career Expo will include both outdoor and indoor booths, with doors remaining open to promote ventilation. All job seekers, employer representatives, and volunteers are required to wear face coverings throughout the event. WNC Career Expo participants must practice the 3 Ws: wear a face covering; wait 6 feet apart from others; and wash or sanitize hands frequently.
