South College will launch a new Cybersecurity program for the upcoming online Spring 2020 term. The 3 year program is designed to address the growing need for qualified cybersecurity specialists that develop security systems, analyze current systems, and more in a digitally integrated society.

Announcement

  • Mark your calendars for IFB’s Santa’s Showdown 5k run on Saturday, December 14. IFB is a corporate nonprofit that is dedicated to creating employment opportunities for the visually impaired, and is happy to announce that this year’s 5k will be chaired by Dawson Hart. Mr. Hart is a veteran who served in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years, and lost most of his sight during his service in Iraq. Despite this, he remains an avid runner and an active member of the IFB board. All are invited to the 5k, including pups! Register online.
  • Avoid scams during the holidays with the Better Business Bureau’s new scam guide. The holidays are a prime time for package theft, phishing emails and more, and shoppers are advised to be on the alert. Read more about how to stay safe on their website.
  • Dine for a good cause! The Campaign for Southern Equality will host their third annual Shop for Equality event on Tuesday, December 10. Participating businesses across Asheville will donate at least 5% of their proceeds from the day to CSE to support equality for LGBTQ individuals in the South. Expansion

  • Mercy Urgent Care will open their eighth location in Waynesville in early 2020. In addition to services for individuals and families, the facility will offer workplace-related health services through its Mercy Occupational Medicine Division. Employers in or near the area can take advantage of a wide array of services from workplace screening and testing to workplace incident management.

Innovation

  • South College will launch a new Cybersecurity program for the upcoming online Spring 2020 term. The 3 year program is designed to address the growing need for qualified cybersecurity specialists that develop security systems, analyze current systems, and more in a digitally integrated society. South College expects for graduates of this program to be immediately qualified to work, and according to the Bureau of Labor, the median pay for a job in this field is $92,600 per year.
