Asheville Regional Airport has two new direct flights. AdventHealth Hendersonville, Pardee UNC Health Care, and South College have all received awards for excellence. And Western Carolina University has named Hai-yang Chen as its next dean of the College of Business.

Achievement

  • Pardee UNC Health Care announced today that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2019 America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award™. The distinction places Pardee in the top 5 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
  • AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to announce it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Centers of Excellence in four Orthopedic Specialties. This designation from The Joint Commission recognizes AdventHealth Hendersonville for Total Ankle Replacement, Total Hip Replacement, Total Knee Replacement and Total Shoulder Replacement Centers of Excellence. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care
  • South College, which has demonstrated its commitment to those who serve in the armed forces, once again has earned the Military Friendly® School designation for 2019-2020 and is among the Top 10 in the country. The list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools nationwide, input from student veterans, and responses to a proprietary survey. South College is one of 770 schools across the country that earned the designation.

Hire

  • The Van Winkle Law Firm announced today that attorney BJ Kilgore has advanced to principal with the firm. Kilgore joined the firm 2016 and focuses his practice on probate law, trust & estate planning, trust and estate administration and trust reformations and termination.
  • Western Carolina University has hired Hai-yang Chen as its next dean of the College of Business. He previously held administrative positions as the founding managing director of the Global Financial Services Institute, founding director of E*TRADE Financial Learning Center and founding director of the Financial Planning Program, all within the Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University of New Jersey. During his career in public education, Chen has led and worked with faculty and staff to develop more than 50 interdisciplinary and international programs, including degree programs in doctor of pharmacy/master of business administration, entrepreneurship, financial planning and others.

Expansion

  • The Asheville Regional Airport welcome its inaugural flight from Washington Dulles International Airport last week. Through United, there’s now twice-daily nonstop service available. Daily flights to Dallas Fort Worth airport will also become available through American Airlines on May 3rd.

Innovation

  • With the start of the new year, Duke Energy is building on the success of popular solar power programs to help more customers go solar across the Carolinas. The company’s $62 million solar rebate program for residential, commercial and nonprofit customers in North Carolina helped 1,700 North Carolina customers go solar last year, hitting capacity limits for both residential and nonresidential customers. Demand has been so strong from residential customers that the rebate allotment has already been met for 2019. The company will continue offering these rebates over the next three years.
