Achievement

  • AdventHealth Hendersonville has been recognized by Premier Inc. as a recipient of the Premier Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) Excellence in Patient Safety Across the Board Award. Announcement

  • Roberts & Stevens, P.A. is pleased to announce that firm partner F. Lachicotte “Lach” Zemp, Jr. has been confirmed as president of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. Established in 1977, the NCADA is a professional organization of nearly 900 attorneys and paralegals across the state who devote a majority of their time to representing businesses and individuals in civil litigation. Zemp was confirmed on June 15, at the 2019 NCADA Annual Meeting held at The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville. He will serve as president of the organization for one year.
  • On June 18, Commissioners approved Buncombe County’s budget for fiscal year 2020. “The $334,454,722 general fund maintains the current property tax of 52.9 cents while continuing to provide existing services and sustain funding for all of the Commissioners’ strategic priorities,” notes County Manager Avril Pinder. The three largest areas of spending are: 27 percent for education; 26.5 percent for human services; and 19 percent for public safety.
  • Buncombe County will help create nearly 350 new homes due to its investment in multiple projects aimed at diversifying the affordable housing landscape. In its new spending plan, there is $3.7 million appropriated to affordable housing, one of the Commissioners’ six strategic priorities. A majority of this funding will supplement long-time partners such as Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, Mountain Housing Opportunities, Homeward Bound, and the Asheville Housing Authority to build new, affordable housing units over the next few years.

Expansion

  • Avadim Health, Inc. announced that its second consumer clinical innovation is launching in 22,000 pharmacies in the 3rd quarter. The Arthritic Joint Discomfort and Inflammation formulation follows the launch of Theraworx® Relief for Muscle Cramps and Spasms and Symptoms Associated with Restless Leg Syndrome, which is the fastest growing brand in the external pain category in pharmacies.

Funding

  • This week, the North Carolina-based Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation announced the names of the awardees of over 2.5 million dollars in community-based grants in 2019, and YWCA is honored to be named as one of those grantees on behalf of Asheville’s Racial Justice Coalition (RJC). The grant will award the RJC $150,000 per year for two years.
  • In addition to YWCA, the Racial Justice Coalition includes the ACLU of Western North Carolina, Asheville-Buncombe Branch of the NAACP, Asheville-Buncombe Institute for Parity Achievement, Asheville City Schools Foundation, Building Bridges of Asheville, Carolina Jews for Justice/West, Center for Diversity Education at UNC-Asheville, Children First/Communities in Schools, Christians for a United Community, Coming to the Table, Democracy NC, Green Opportunities, Mountain People’s Assembly, Residents’ Council of Asheville Housing Authority, and Southerners On New Ground (SONG).

Data

  • The City of Asheville is launching a community survey to inform the future design of Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and to determine how to best update the auditorium to meet community and patron needs. The survey, which will be open from June 19-30, is available here.

Opportunity
