This week in AVL Biz, Harrah’s will be breaking ground on a $200 million conference center and hotel tower, and the Van Winkle Law Firm welcomes in a new associate attorney to their legal fold. Read on for more announcements, expansions, and opportunities in the AVL Chamber world.

Announcement

  • The Van Winkle Law Firm announced today that Melody King has joined the firm as an associate attorney in its family law practice group. King will advise clients on matters related to divorce, child custody and visitation, child support, alimony, post-separation support, and equitable distribution.
  • AMP-Connect is honored to highlight Dr. Rebecca Bruce from UNC Asheville in our “Women In STEM” exhibit at the Asheville Museum of Science. The preliminary target for exhibit completion is September 2018. More updates coming soon.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville-Biltmore announces that Mark Holland will be its featured local artist of the quarter, with several collections of his artwork featured in the lobby of the hotel.  The new exhibit was installed in mid-June and proceeds from the sale of the artwork will benefit Helpmate.

Expansion

  • Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, located in Cherokee, North Carolina, will break ground on a $200 million conference center and hotel tower on Tuesday, June 26 at 10am. The 17-story expansion will feature a sprawling 83,000 square feet of conference space, 725 hotel rooms, plus dining and retail outlets.

  • Will Leverette of Swannanoa has been named as winner of a new roof in Balken Roofing’s No Roof Left BehindTM initiative. Will has lived in Swannanoa for 22 years, and is on disability due to his struggle with MS. He volunteers with disabled combat veterans, as well as with the Warren Wilson College Whitewater paddling team.
