  • Symmetry Financial Group has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. This is the fourth consecutive year Symmetry has been featured on this list. 

Announcement

  • Allegiant announced new service from Asheville to West Palm Beach, Florida beginning November 25, 2019. To celebrate, the company is offering one-way fares on the new route as low as $54. This new year-round route will operate twice weekly. With the addition of this new route, Allegiant will now serve 11 cities from Asheville Regional Airport (AVL). Flight days, times and the lowest fares can be found only at Allegiant.com.
  • Four Seasons’ child and adolescent bereavement program Heart Songs is being renamed Compass to reflect its mission of helping young people who are grieving find a path through grief. The program has served young people in western North Carolina for 25 years and has expanded from a small program for children and grandchildren of hospice patients into a renowned service available for any child who has experienced the death of a loved one within the 11 counties Four Seasons serves. 
  • Saturday, August 17 marked Asheville School’s 120th Opening Day, and it promises to be a banner year for the school. In addition to celebrating record enrollment, this will be the first Opening Day for newly appointed Head of School Dr. Anthony Sgro, who is the ninth head in Asheville School’s history. A 1984 graduate of Asheville School, Sgro is the first alumnus to serve as the school’s head. 

Funding

  • Pardee UNC Health Care, as part of UNC Health Care, has received a grant from the Duke Endowment Foundation to improve the hospital experience for dementia patients. The protocol from the grant is intended to meet the unique needs of patients who have dementia by ensuring hospital staff are trained to recognize dementia in their patients and provide dementia-friendly care.
  • AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation has been awarded a $15,468 grant from the Perry N. Rudnick Fund that is administered by the Community Foundation of Henderson County. This grant will fund the cost of the hands-free CortoFlex Camera needed for its Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program that will help protect victim data in cases of sexual assault.

Hire

  • Buncombe County has hired Trisha Burnett as its new Internal Auditor, concluding its nationwide search. As the County’s Internal Auditor, Burnett will oversee the ongoing process of evaluating County departments, programs, processes, and records to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, accuracy of data, efficient and effective uses of resources, and adequate security over County assets and records. She is slated to start her new post mid-September.
  • Buncombe County Partnership for Children is thrilled to welcome new members Karen Cowan and Anne Marie Lester to its diverse governing board. Cowan has more than 19 years of experience in the world of foster care and is the owner and CEO of the Brandi Nicole Family Enrichment Center. Lester is the Assistant Director of the Children’s Developmental Services Agency of Western North Carolina.
  • Capital Bank, a member of the First Horizon National Corp., announced Kevin Hefner has been named Area President for the Morristown, Tenn., Greeneville, Tenn. and Asheville, N.C. markets.
