 Congrats to Apex Companies on its acquisition of Bureau Veritas, to Four Seasons on its 40th anniversary and Highland Brewing on its future taproom in downtown Asheville.

Achievement

  • A highlight of the annual Bascom Lamar Lunsford “Minstrel of Appalachia” Festival is the presentation of its namesake award. The 2019 recipient of the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award is clogger Loretta Freeman. The award will be presented at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, on the main stage of the festival, which takes place on the Mars Hill University campus.

Acquisition

  • In July Apex Companies, LLC (Apex) acquired the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) consulting business of Bureau Veritas. Through this transaction, Apex became the largest private Industrial Hygiene practice in the United States boasting over 1,000 health, safety, and environmental professionals with over 50 nationwide offices. Apex is an award-winning and industry leader in safety, ergonomics, sustainability, compliance and management systems, hazardous building materials, and overall industrial hygiene. Additionally, Apex is the largest private stormwater management / compliance practice in the United States. as well as an award-winning water resources, environmental services, and industrial hygiene firm.

Anniversary

  • In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Four Seasons will hold a special celebration on Saturday, October 12 from 12pm – 2pm at the Hendersonville Historic Courthouse. The event is open to the public. Announcement

  • Over the next few weeks, Brother Wolf’s chapter projects in McDowell, Rutherford, and Dickenson counties will all become independent non-profit organizations. Brother Wolf originally began these auxiliary chapters with the intention of reducing the counties’ kill rates and ultimately developing each chapter into a self-sustaining, separate entity. After several years of growth, the chapters are ready to bring this goal to fruition. 

Expansion

  • A generous gift to Mars Hill University is helping students become better prepared for life after college. The university will hold an open house and ribbon cutting for the new Cothran Center for Career Readiness on Friday, September 13, 2019.
  • Highland Brewing Company is returning to downtown Asheville where the brewery’s story began 25 years ago. This second taproom represents a special homecoming as Highland joins Ellington Realty Group and four-time James Beard Award-nominee Chef Meherwan Irani to revive an Asheville Art Deco treasure in the historic S&W Cafeteria building at 56 Patton Avenue. 

Funding

  • For the 4th year in a row, 3 Doors Down rocked Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort with their concert, bike ride, raffles and silent auction to benefit The Better Life Foundation (TBLF). Over $481,000 in raffle & concert ticket sales, as well as in-kind donations were raised by Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos for the Foundation.
  • Friends of the Smokies, an official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, will hold it’s first-ever Smokies Cup at the Biltmore Sporting Clays Club on Friday, Sept. 20. This event will raise funds to ensure that America’s most-visited national park is preserved and protected for generations to come.

  • The YMCA of Western North Carolina is joining Welcoming America and hundreds of YMCAs and other organizations nationwide to celebrate immigrants’ contributions to our community during Welcoming Week, Sept. 13-22. YMCA locations throughout the region are hosting events to bring together all residents in a spirit of unity.

Partnership

  • Asheville School is excited to welcome Triathlon Gold, an elite triathlon program led by founder and head coach Jarrod Evans, who has trained more than 25 World Triathlon Champions, 40 National Triathlon Champions and multiple ITU Champions over a 20-year coaching career. Triathlon Gold has partnered with Asheville School for use of the school’s athletic facilities, and Director of Alternative Revenue Sarah Bednar says that the partnership goes far past a simple facilities agreement.
